Methylene blue (methyl blue, methylene blue) - dark green crystals with a bronze luster. Solubility: sparingly soluble in water (1:30), small - in the alcohol is practically insoluble in diethyl ether. Aqueous solutions are blue.
Methylene blue (methyl blue, methylene blue) is used
• for dyeing cotton, wool, silk in bright blue color, coloring paper, crayons and the manufacture of printing inks
• in analytical chemistry for determining chlorates, perchlorates, cations of mercury, tin, magnesium, calcium, cobalt, and cadmium;
• in medicine as an antiseptic, an antidote to cyanide poisoning, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide, and others.
